Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Huayllabamba

Your adventure begins early in the morning with hotel pickup in Cusco. We travel to Piscacucho (Km 82), the official starting point of the Inca Trail located at 2,700 meters above sea level.

After passing the control checkpoint, the trek begins along the Urubamba River as we enter the beautiful Sacred Valley. Along the way, we visit the archaeological site of Patallacta, an ancient Inca settlement overlooking the valley.

The trail continues gradually uphill through the Kusichaca Valley until we reach our first campsite at Huayllabamba (3,000 m), surrounded by impressive mountain scenery.

Day 2: Huayllabamba – Warmiwañusca Pass – Pacaymayu

After breakfast, we begin the most challenging day of the trek. The trail climbs steadily toward the highest point of the Inca Trail, Warmiwañusca Pass (4,215 m), also known as the Dead Woman’s Pass.

Along the route, you will see llamas and alpacas grazing among the high-altitude grasslands. The views from the top are spectacular and one of the most rewarding moments of the trek.

After reaching the pass, we descend into the Pacaymayu Valley (3,600 m) where we set up camp and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Day 3: Pacaymayu – Phuyupatamarca – Wiñay Wayna

Day three offers some of the most beautiful scenery along the Inca Trail. We climb to Runkurakay Pass and visit the archaeological site of Runkurakay, believed to have served as a strategic control point.

Continuing along ancient stone paths, we explore the impressive ruins of Sayacmarca and later reach Phuyupatamarca, known as the “City Above the Clouds”.

Finally, we descend through lush cloud forest to our campsite near Wiñay Wayna, where we also visit this impressive archaeological complex.

Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

The final day begins very early around 4:00 a.m. as we hike toward the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From this viewpoint, you will witness the unforgettable sunrise over Machu Picchu.

After enjoying the spectacular view, we descend to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of approximately two hours, where you will learn about the fascinating history and architecture of the Inca civilization.

After the visit, we travel down to Aguas Calientes and later take the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by transportation back to Cusco, arriving in the evening.

We took the tour - Peru in 10 Days: From the Capital to the Inca Ruins with Flight Included - and had it slightly changed. The travel agency was flexible in adjusting the itinerary. They were generous enough to give us a hotel room upgrade in Lima and a free guide on our Wayna Picchu trek. This was a truly memorable Christmas since we spent it in Wayna Picchu and Machu Picchu which was on our bucket list. All other parts of the tour were great especially Huacachina and Rainbow Mountain. The Ceviche in the class & tasting part of the tour was the best one we tried as compared to the highly rated restaurants we visited in Lima. Highly recommended!
